Honduras and the 2009 Coup

Honduras is a country in Central America bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua.

Its size is just over 112,000 km² (approx half the size of the United Kingdom) with an estimated population of almost eight million.

25 August 2008 – Zelaya signs agreement to join ALBA (Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América)

28 June - military seizes President Zelaya to pre-empt a non-binding referendum on whether to add an extra ballot box to the November election asking about the desirability of convening an Assembly to review the Constitution of Honduras, which Zelaya had scheduled to be held later that day.
